Amateur Chefs to Battle It Out at First Public RibFest

Care to spend Canada Day eating, drinking and judging?

RibFest may have started as a private backyard barbecue competition amongst industry friends, but this year Mamie Taylor’s and Re-Up BBQ are bringing the grill master challenge to Vancouver’s very public streets.

Five local amateur chefs will battle head-to-head for bragging rights (and a DIY RibFest trophy) outside Mamie Taylor’s restaurant in Chinatown on July 1, and for the first time since the underground competition’s start in 2009, challengers will be at the mercy of public judges as well.

For $5 a limited number of spectators can taste and deliberate as part of the expert rib-judging panel alongside Mamie Taylor’s Chef Tobias Grignon.

Nibbles and tipples at the event:

To feed the salivating crowds, Mamie Taylor’s will be serving $12 rib plates (a Re-Up and Mamie collab), with $5 beer specials from Strange Fellows Brewing.
