Now Open: The Greek by Anatoli
After years at the foot of Lonsdale, the Anatoli brothers have opened their newest location in Yaletown: The Greek by Anatoli.
For the last 30 years, Anatoli Souvlaki has been held in high esteem for its authentic Greek cuisine at the foot of Lonsdale. Now, Iani and Alexi Makris, sons of the Anatoli family, have joined with their partner Daniel Bergman to open their second restaurant: The Greek by Anatoli. Located in Yaletown with 65 seats and a soon-to-come patio, they have created a characteristic space with white painted exposed brick, glowing lanterns draped along the wood beam roof, and red accents that begin at the custom solid wood doors all the way through to the railings and banquettes inside.
Teamed up with their executive chef Scott Robertson, he has crafted a menu that honours the quality of Anatoli Souvlaki but infuses modern perspectives. Meals balance staples from Anatoli, such as the Country Lamb, alongside new items like Rabbit Popsicles while all served mezze-style (as sharing plates—but we won’t blame you if you keep it for yourself) to create a social and energetic atmosphere.
To compete with the Yaletown energy they have created an imaginative bar program that channels the regions vivid flavours: imagine ingredients like fig, honey, and Greek yogurt shaken and stirred into craft cocktails such as the White Negroni.
The Greek by Anatoli is located at 1043 Mainland Street, open 11am till late, seven days a week. Take a look at their never-before-published recipe for Braised Rabbit (Kouneli Styfado), exclusive to Western Living.
