Room of the Week: A Cool, Industrial-Inspired Living Room

Naikoon Contracting’s House of Hope is making us feel all sorts of room envy.

Every year, the Greater Vancouver Home Builders Association (GVHBA) celebrates the best of the best in new-home construction, renovation and design. And this week, while scrolling through their 2018 Ovation Awards winners, I fell head-over-heels in love with Naikoon Contracting’s House of Hope.

Do you see that gallery wall? I’m a stickler for consistency and order (gimme straight lines and matching frames, please), but this haphazardly placed collection of family photos immediately captured by attention and my heart; there’s just something about it that lends warmth to this otherwise neutral, open-concept space. Combined with concrete floors (one of my fave design elements), industrial-chic Edison bulbs, rustic wood details and an exposed ceiling—not to mention a second gallery wall with the same messy arrangement—and I’m about ready to move in.

The home is a collaboration between the builders at Naikoon Contracting, the architects at Kerschbaumer Design and the interior designers at Customized Decor.

Naikoon’s House of Hope was recognized for excellence in energy efficiency and excellence in innovation and sustainability.
