Back in Black Lighting

Omer Arbel’s new 73 Series for Bocci shows he’s still the king of modern lighting design.

Vancouver designer Omer Arbel’s Bocci lighting series has effectively become shorthand for modern design:  I can remember one edition of our Western Living Condo magazine featured no less than nine homes with his 14-series lights positioned above dining room tables, in powder rooms, over kitchen islands…you get the picture. Now, his light series are getting an edgy new look with the 73 series (from $820)—the complex, fluid shapes are made from glass blown into ceramic fabric. The designer is as keen on the process as he is on the finished product, and it’s worth watching the short video he’s posted on the making of these lights: truly fascinating.
