Designers Share their Fave Wood Accessories
Six Western Canadian designers show us what it means to bring the outdoors inside…literally.
Whether it’s Scandinavian design or our own West Coast influence, wood is an irreplaceable look in any home. The texture alone reminds us of the great outdoors, but without the cold and wet embrace of a rainy day. Here are some picks from local designers who celebrate the natural look for its comforting, sustainable and timeless feel.
Designers’ Favourite Wood Accessories:
“The log bowls are stunning. They come in a variety of sizes and colours. For an extra fifteen dollars you can even have a custom colour made to suit your needs. And they’re made in Canada!” —Kevin Mitchell, Mitchell Design House
“One of my favourites for kids and adults! I tend to always find a way to incorporate whimsical objects into the interiors I work on, and this one makes me smile overtime. It’s a classic, hand-crafted wooden toy that can be cherished and passed on in your family. You can even purchase a Christmas hat for this little guy!”—Elena Del Bucchia, Elena Del Bucchia Design
“We were pretty excited about the small, but brilliantly curated collection. They are the perfect compliment for a Scandinavian-inspired interior that works so well in Canada. Available in Vancouver through Inform Interiors.”—Chad Falkenberg, Falken Reynolds Interiors
“Besides being an essential tool for any kitchen, leaning up against the backsplash, these cutting boards make for beautiful, sculptural accessories. Perfect for serving any number of goodies, they lend a warmth and style to any space. We love the pedigree—made from fallen trees after a storm they bring a sort of romance with them, too!”—Greer Nelson and Jamie Hamilton, Oliver Simon Design
“I love the simple, feminine, ribbon-like feel of the wood veneer. It has a warmth when off and when lit, the light enhances the wood grain.” —Nyla Free, Nyla Free Designs
