March Madness Round 2: Eames Plywood vs. Eames Eiffel
Our Classic Chair Battle Royale continues well into April with a new duo of contenders.
This is it! The final match of Round 2 of our March Madness Classic Chair bracket competition. And who’s tying things up for us? Eames, and more Eames. That’s right: the iconic designers have made it to Round 2 only to face themselves again. So which design will reign supreme? The Molded Plywood chair, or the ubiquitous Eiffel chair?
We’ve asked some experts to weigh in below, but ultimately, the decision is up to you. Vote in the comments below, or let us know on Twitter or Facebook to let us know which chair deserves to make it through to the semi-final round.
Ready to Fight, It’s the Molded Plywood Chair
as defended by Amanda Hamilton, Amanda Hamilton Interior Design
“Aside from the inimitable organic form of the Eames Molded Plywood chair, it offers a relaxed aesthetic with its low-slung, lounge-style seat while maintaining a sophisticated, stylish vibe. Great as a dining chair, side chair for a study or simply to act as a piece of art to create some interest at the end of a hall. Given it has plenty of options for finishes, like exotic woods or a rich red, the Molded Plywood chair makes for a killer statement piece.”
Up Next: The Eames Eiffel Chair
as defended by Kevin Mitchell, Mitchell Design House
“Compared to the Molded Plywood chair, I would say the best thing about the Eiffel chair is that it comes in so many different colours that you’re bound to find one that works with your palette. The other nice thing is that it looks more expensive in comparison—plywood isn’t exactly seen as a luxury finish. The shiny chrome and bright colours can add whimsy and playfulness to decor.”
