What’s Inspiring Your Designs Right Now, Annaliesse Kelly?
Interior designer Annaliesse Kelly shares the looks and pieces on her spring 2019 mood board.
Forever in search of fresh inspiration, we like to turn to the people who are even more obsessed: interior designers. “Although I’m still inspired by clean, modern lines, I’m also loving layering right now, finding moments of playfulness and whimsy and embracing rich tones and layers,” reveals Annaliesse Kelly, who runs an eponymous design firm in Vancouver. “I’m really interested in building spaces that look like they were built over time, not just fresh, shiny and new. Items don’t have to make logical sense together to be beautiful.”

“This photo is from artist William McLure’s home. If you look at the composition, it’s quite modern, but each piece is traditional—all together, they could fit in anywhere.”
“You don’t have to pick a specific era with your design. Just find pieces you love, like this hand-blown glass pendant lamp from Nilufar. It nods to geometric art deco design but could be used in so many applications, really.”
“With its clean lines and velvet upholstery, the Natuzzi Aura chair is a super-modern and beautiful Italian design that puts a spin on the traditional wingback chair.”
“This is one of my team’s projects: no drywall here, just walnut. I love the layering of velvet and rich wood.”
“We are currently installing this Ferm Living Insert side table in a custom home, and I love how playful it is!”
“I’m really loving animal prints now, too, as a playful addition to a space—like this abstract leopard Kitten print from Drop It Modern.”
“The Rosieli Ginkgo Blossom 13 chandelier is a beautiful mix of geometric and organic forms. When it’s lit, it’s really fun.”
