Set the season alight in a fiery glow. 

There’s nothing more soul warming than nestling yourself next to the fireplace with a hot beverage and embracing the dark winter evenings (is it too early in the season to crack open the mulled wine?). So to add a little light to the forthcoming months, we’ve dug up five fireplaces from the WL archives to heat up your space. Hibernation season, activated.

1.Rustic Luxe

We love the simplicity in interior designer and stylist Carrie McCarthy’s South Pender cottage. Fixed against stark white walls, this iron framed fireplace offers warmth to an open space and is immediately welcoming.

2.Va Va Vintage

Calgary designer Alykhan Velji, pulled out all the stops when transforming this dated 1950’s home. Perfectly incorporating the new and old, Velji units both heritage and modern elements in this simple yet unique design.

3.Gothic Greatness 

For this re-vamp, Vancouver Designer Gillian Segal opted for the stress-free option when it came to updating the cherry-wood fireplace in her Yaletown condo. It’s amazing what can be accomplished with just a lick of paint. Matching the grey walls and mantelpiece gives us low-key gothic vibes, whilst the soft pastel accents instantly relax the Victorian style.

4.Tiled to Perfection

Sectioned between mint-green mirrored cabinets, black and white mosaic tiles were used by designer Jenna Joseph to add a modern flare to this 100 year old house. This monochrome installation is definitely an eye-catching piece that would no doubt add personality to any space.

5.Creativity on a Budget

Thinking about purging that outdated fireplace, but don’t have the budget to pull it off just yet? Designer Angela Robinson has the perfect solution for just that. Instead of replacing the whole body, Robinson removed the “gnarly electric fireplace,” and now uses it as a space to house an abundance of accessories from candles to books; turning her once unappealing space, into a focal point.
