The architects at Measured Architecture are used to making adults’ dreams come true with their award-winning residential projects—but with this project, they’re going to cultivate a far younger fanbase. On the second level of Measured’s “modestly sized” Frame House, you’ll find a knotted net that runs above the hallways and bedrooms, accessed through stairs hidden in the littlest residents’ closets. (A hanging artwork by Lorenzo Hurtado Segovia on the wall echoes the net theme in vibrant hues.)
“The luxury of wasted space is one few Vancouverites with young children can afford,” write Measured Architecture principals Clinton Cuddington and Piers Cunnington in the studio’s application. With this creative, deeply playful detail, they’re making the most of every square inch, and infusing a little childlike wonder into the very foundation of their design.
