They say every child is an artist, and that childlike wonder and a penchant for design is just what inspired designer Matthew McCormick’s Ben lamp. Made as an ode to how McCormick’s son, Ben, instinctively collects and stacks found objects, the Ben lamp ($2,650) is a delicately balanced stack of hand-carved solid stone forms with a blown glass globe that radiates soft light. The lamp’s unexpected shape can be made from a range of interchangeable solid stone varieties, including Roman travertine, Calacatta marble, Rosso Levanto red marble and Portoro black and gold marble. “The final piece eternalizes the marvel in quiet moments when we discover something that we love,” writes McCormick.
