One look at this Stephanie Brown-designed dining room, and you'll be on the hunt for blue dining chairs of your own.
Play with shape and pattern to master the modern mix.
The playful painting of Marilyn Monroe by artist Michael Moebius was actually the first piece the homeowners bought for this Stephanie Brown–designed dining room. “They picked it up before construction even started!” laughs Brown. “It really had to be the focal point.” The artwork inspired Brown to create a room with just as much retro fun—but that still felt thoroughly modern. How? By pairing ’80s-cool geometric pieces (like the credenza, rug and chandelier) with softer lines. “The dining chairs and the oval table are more organic, and that balances out the harsher angles,” explains Brown. “It’s that mix that keeps it feeling fresh.”
