Wine Spectator's Top 100 just came out and we scooped them on wine #12we just can't find the post.
Felton Road Bannockburn Pinot Noir 2017, $70A few months back, I tasted a wine so singular and chock-full of personality that I knew I wanted to do a post on it. But things got in the way, deadlines loomed and it was a few months later that I finally penned “Why You Should Spend $70 on a Bottle Of New Zealand Wine”, or words to that effect, in which I waxed about the lovely Pinot Noir from the famed producer Felton Road.So when I picked up—and by which I mean clicked on—Wine Spectator‘s just-released Top 100 Wines of 2018, I was heartened to see that the editors at that august publication agreed with my assessment, awarding the Felton Road spot #12 on the list. Beaming, I hopped on our site to look at the original post. I typed in Felton: nothing. Kiwi: nothing. And I began to think maybe I had only intended to write about the wine and then forgot. But it seemed so real. And then I remembered the small server “issue” we had this summer that wiped out a chunk of posts mostly about $14,000 couches and drapery trends. But in there was my viniferous claim to having been on the Felton Road 2017 Bannockburn train before the smart guys at Wine Spectator. It’s gone now—forever! But I know in my heart what happened. Also, the wine is really excellent, so while I know it’s less than ideal to pay $70 for a bottle of Kiwi wine, this one is worth it.
