Örling & Wu Opens New South Granville Location

The Vancouver-based homeware store is opening a second location for its design-savvy clientele.

It’s not often a store has the exact qualities needed to compliment a neighbourhood’s aesthetic. For Örling & Wu, the opening of their new South Granville location (1563 West 6th Ave. at Fir Street) was almost a given. Sprinkled with likeminded independent retailers, 6th and Fir is an up-and-coming area full of fashion-forward locals and young families.The new location, open June 9, is half the size of its sister location in Gastown (see image above) and designed with a minimalistic Scandinavian look in mind. The store’s merchandise—sourced from around the world from brands with similar values—encompasses trends made for design-led homes. Unlike its Gastown location, the South Granville store will feature String furniture from Sweden, Ikeuchi towels from Japan, Void watches from Hong Kong, and Tealeaves tea from Vancouver.Since its inception in 2009, the store has drawn inspiration from co-founder Julie Wu’s grandparents’ manufacturing business in Taiwan as well as her upbringing in England. “Every well-made object begins with an honest pair of hands and a determined yet sensible mind,” she says. She and co-founder Fredrik Örling base their choices of objects on Swedish and European design and working culture.
