This new book celebrates legendary architect William Krisel (and we're giving you the chance to win a copy!)
There’s just something about Palm Springs. For some, it’s the high desert temperatures and luxury resorts. For others, it’s the swinging palm trees and lush fairways. But for us? It’s all about the mid-century architecture. You can then imagine our delight when we learned about the release of William Krisel’s Palm Springs: The Language of Modernism—a gorgeous book chronicling the work of architect and mid-century modern pioneer William Krisel.Throughout his 50-plus years as an architect, Krisel designed more than 40,000 units—apartments, office towers, hotels and tract houses—that have long been admired for their open floor plans, clerestory windows and signature butterfly roofs (not even WL travel editor Neal McLennan could resist this 1957 SoCal estate).Filled with a stunning collection of photographs (see below for a sneak peek!), architectural renderings and essays, William Krisel’s Palm Springs gives readers insight about his unique approach to design: “The difference between the meaning of ‘modern’ as a style and ‘modernism’ as a philosophy is crucial to understanding what I do—and what I won’t do—in architecture, landscape design, and planning.”
