A utilitarian bathroom tool gets a design-y makeover.
There’s pretty much no way to talk about a toilet brush without evoking the unpleasant realities of what goes on when one uses the commode, so I’d just like to take a moment to apologize for planting less-than-glamourous images in your head as you read this article. But toilets, like it or not, are a part of our lives (still waiting on science to sort that out once and for all) and cleaning the bathroom is part of that package.Scrubbing toilets is a chore that’s no-fun at best and disgusting at worst, but Better Living has recently attempted to make the experience at least slightly more pleasant with its sleek black-and-white Looeegee Toilet Squeegee—and as crazy as this might sound, I think they’ve actually done it.While I never would’ve described the series of cheap plastic bristle brushes I’ve gone through over the years as “inspiring,” the Looeegee at least comes close with its clever alternative design. Instead of plastic bristles, there’s 30 non-stick silicone micro-blades on a pad that flexes to glide along the curved surface of the bowl and gets up under the rim. It’s a hygienic alternative to traditional cleaning tools—the water-repellant material prevents bacteria buildup in the holster.I’ll admit: for heavy-duty cleaning (sorry sorry sorry!), this is not the product for you. But if you’re using this elegant squeegee on the regular, you’ll likely avoid the need for intense scrubbing all together. And when you’re enjoying the more elegant parts of bathroom life—a hot soak in the tub, for example—the sleek design will elevate the space in ways a cheapo brush never could. It may not make cleaning the toilet a thrill, but at least it’ll make the experience a more beautiful one.Looeegee Hygienic Toilet Squeegee, $40, available at Better Living
