Mera Studio Architects refresh a 1960s Calgary home, preserving its vintage charm while enhancing modern living.
The Maple Leaf House project was more than just an interior design assignment—it was a chance for Tara Marshall and Meghan Bannon, principal architects of Mera Studio, to do some time travel. The 1960s home was a little worn, but ultimately had great bones and a perfect vintage-cool layout. “The number-one goal for this home was to retain as much original detailing and charm as possible from this ’60s build,” the Mera team wrote in their entry. So the carpet and tile got a refresh, but the rest of the expansive, uniquely shaped living room received little intervention: “We utilized as much of the original detailing as we could and only made changes that truly enhanced the family’s lifestyle.” A mix of new and vintage furniture is thoughtfully arranged here to create cozy gathering spaces—because, no matter the decade, togetherness is always in style.
