Even for the most extroverted of extroverts, there comes a time for quiet. So though project lead Kadie Hilario and the Amanda Hamilton Interior Design team crafted this 8,070-square-foot family home in Calgary’s Elbow Park neighbourhood with entertaining in mind, they were savvy enough to sneak a hidden lounge into the layout, too, a cozy place to hide away when the party’s over. Behind a concealed millwork panel in the hall lies a jewel box of a room, richly layered with colour and texture. The monochromatic escape is drenched in drama: a pistachio-coloured coffered ceiling; custom cabinetry in a saturated emerald; velvety, verdant furniture that picks up on the greens of a lily-pad printed wallcovering. So, yes, the lounge is hidden away, but it’s anything but shy.
