Vancouver’s Propellor creates products that are illuminating in more ways than one. Yes, the Notta pendant lights (from $920 for a single lamp; from $2,620 for a trio) are practical, functional lamps that artfully brighten the home on a grey West Coast day.

But they’re also, as the Propellor team writes, “a meditation on time, rhythm and form.” The turned wooden elements are intended to evoke a sense of movement and communication, as if the fixture holds a history, recording time in its patterns. Softly diffused light only enhances the warmth of the sustainably harvested North American hardwood (oak or walnut), each piece turned by hand at Propellor’s Granville Island studio.
