Project Cabin 1+1 Open Air Kitchen
Designer Edward Ozimek
Collaborators Monika Tischer; New Format Studio; WHM Structural Engineers
Location Galiano Island, B.C.
Category Room
Photography Andrew Latreille

Designed as an outdoor communal space, this open-air kitchen is just the kind of outdoor room you’d want to spend time in with friends and family. Defined by an integrated board-formed concrete fireplace and a countertop with a panoramic view of Mount Baker and the Cascade Range, it’s made to host the two families who share the Cabin 1+1 it lives in, with large sliding walls flanking the kitchen that can open up to connect this collective exterior space into the living areas of each family’s respective wings. In cooler months, the fireplace extends the season, perfect for cooking, yes, but, just as importantly, also perfect for lounging and star gazing.
