With Halloween around the corner, its time to start thinking about treats.Move over, fun-sized candy barsthese caramel creations are our prefered indulgence this Halloween.
From simple salted caramel candies to banana cake with caramel buttercream, these five caramel-forward desserts bring a little hit of sweetness to help us make it through the season. (Photo: Gabriel Cabrera.)
Nothing like an easy-to-make salted caramel to start with the list. Sweet and salty pair so well, which makes these little beauties irresistible for any candy lover. Mix some sugars, butter, cream and syrup; sprinkle with salt and get a chewy melt-in-your-mouth treat that puts your kid’s fun-sized Snickers bars to shame.

Homemade pies are a must. Trade the classic and autumn-favourite salted caramel apple pie for a succulent pear one. Same crisp crust but with a mouth-watering filling made out of the perfect mix of pears, lemon juice, sugar, tapioca starch and vanilla. (Photo: Julia Dilworth.)
Kill two birds with one, uh, potato. Next time you make mashed potatoes, use the skin for this surprisingly delicious dessert: potato ice cream drizzled with coffee ground caramel. Is it a little crazy? Maybe. But anything from the weird and wonderful mind of chef David Gunawan is something you’ll want to try.

Chocolate cupcakes are good; chocolate cupcakes with salted caramel are the perfect treat. Level up your next batch and spread the sweetness to everyone. (Photo: Clinton Hussey.)
And if all of the above wasn’t enough to satisfy your sweet tooth, a four-layer banana and caramel buttercream cake topped with chocolate glaze should do the trick. Decorate with a light dusting of cocoa powder and served with whipped cream, ice cream and a drizzle of caramel sauce to make it even better.
