The Design Talks Institute invites you to debate multi-unit housing solutions for our ever-densifying cities.
How can we make the most of small spaces in highly populated areas?In this latest event, Let’s Talk About…Proximity, Design Talks Institute (D.Talks) is bringing together real estate specialists, engineers, architects, urban planners and designers from across Calgary to dissect multi-unit housing and urban density issues, and to plan how best to move forward in the current socioeconomic real estate climate.What’s the future of close-proximity living in our country’s biggest cities? The experts debate the big ideas and creative solutions Monday, Sept. 26, at the St. Louis Hotel in Calgary.
Mary Axworthy is an urban planner and former municipal government executive. Her expertise is in city-wide and neighbourhood planning, public participation and project management. Currently, she runs her organization Axworthy International Consulting Ltd. and is a member of the Alberta Municiple Government Board and Adjunct at the University of Calgary.Kevin Harrison is a partner at Sturgess Architecture with more than 13 years of experience in the profession. With an ever-growing list of successful projects of varying scales and a Mayor’s Urban Design Award under his belt, Harrison’s ability to combine his technical abilities and creativity has resulted in many innovative designs.Johanna Hurme is one of the founding partners of 5468796 Architecture, a Winnipeg-based firm that has accumulated many distinguished projects since it was created in 2007—winning awards such as the Architectural Record Design Vanguard and WAN 21 for 21 Award.Dustin Couzens is a founder of MoDA Architecture, and will be moderating the event. His experience includes working for the internationally-renowned firm Coop-Himmelblau in Austria and IBI Group in Vancouver. Additionally, he works as an instructor of Environmental Design at the University of Calgary.
