Our personal design crush celebrates a diverse range of small-scale designers at this non-traditional exhibition.
Vancouver-based designer and 2017 Furniture Designer of the Year Kate Duncan is inviting everyone in the Vancouver area (and out-of-town fans who don’t mind the commute) to attend ADDRESS. This non-traditional exhibition is part gallery, part pop-up shop and part showroom. The launch event is tonight, Wednesday, September 25 at 7:00 p.m., and the showcase runs until the 29th only.
ADDRESS has broken away from the traditions and typical set up of trade shows or craft markets. Rather than holding booths that focus on individual brands, ADDRESS showcases exhibitor's work in a collaborative fashion. Work from small teamed North American design studios will be featured in curated vignettes at Eastside Studios.
Duncan has been working towards deconstructing the barriers and inequality that women and minorities face in the design industry by curating an event that celebrates diversity. Over 50 percent of the exhibitors will be women, while work from racial minorities and LGBTQ+ founded brands will also be on display.
Over 20 artists and design studios will be showcased at this year's event. Expect to find minimal, modern concrete jewellery like drop earrings and double-finger rings from Western Living's 2019 Fashion Designer of the Year Béton Brut, a range of solid hardwood products from ORIGINS Design & Fabrication Studio, and of course, contemporary North American hardwoods from the one and only Kate Duncan.
