One B.C-based interior design student will have the chance to win a scholarship and help PlaidFox Studio redesign the Buchan Hotel ?in Vancouvers West End.
PlaidFox Studio is looking for students to help them on their quest to redesign the old Buchan Hotel into a wild and spectacular boutique concept that’ll feature a combination of old schoolhouse, Scandinavian modernism and art deco. In this challenge, students are being specifically asked to transform the narrow and dark hallway space that leads to the basement rooms into the most Instagrammable space in the hotel. Submissions will be evaluated based on its value creation, visual appeal, space usage and more.
The student concepts could include custom furniture, artwork, mixed materials, neon lights pretty much whatever the student wants to do, explains PlaidFox Creative Director Ben Leavitt. ¨
PlaidFox will eventually cut down the field to five finalists, who will then head to the Montauk Sofa Showroom in Gastown on January 22nd to pitch their design concepts to a judging panel of experts.
The winner of the PlaidFox One to Watch Scholarship will receive $2,500 in tuition credit and a $2,500 branding package from Vancouver's 49 North Branding and Marketing agency (this includes a portfolio website and marketing materials). The winning student will also be featured in a story on the Western Living website, as well as being offered an internship at PlaidFox and have their design live on in a new boutique hotel in the West End. ¨
