Summer is well underway, which means it’s time to brighten up our homes and let in some sunshine. We’ve compiled a list of some our favourite light-filled living rooms that is sure to inspire.
Credit: Barry KalhounFor interior designer Kelly Deck, the key to this living room was giving a traditional, ivory-and-black space a modern touch. It’s the subtle details that make this room special, from the mirrored oval coffee table and custom chairs to the seasonal accessories. See more of this stylish space.

A compromise was reached. Bleached floors and crisp white walls give the room a bright, airy feel, while Persian rugs and vintage plates pair perfectly against glass-and-gold nesting coffee tables. The result is a luxurious space with the perfect blend of modern and traditional. See more of this luxurious living room.

For Fox Design Studio‘s Ben Leavitt, the idea was to create a space that was fun and carefree. This bright living room features custom-made cushions, created by mixing Japanese Silk from Beacon Hill with Velvet from Robert Allen. See more of this colourful space.

Despite being a smaller space, Ritchie Construction‘s Chris Hill made the most of every inch and transformed this 1980s townhouse into a dream home. Furniture was sourced from a variety of places—the sofa from a furniture liquidator, the table from HomeSense and the rocker from CB2. Gus the dog models here. See more of this cozy living room.

In addition to the structure, it’s also stylish and contemporary. The large-format slate above the fireplace has the effect of helping the TV disappear, while the textured off-white tile laid vertically around the fireplace draws the eye, making it a focal point. The walls, while all-white, are anything but stark. The living room’s minimalism gives it a feeling of elegance and helps its many features pop, from the Finnish-design floor lamp to the rustic, iron chandelier that crowns the room. The height of the space is another focal point, perfect for letting in bursts of summer sunshine. See more of this bright, rustic room.
