Cherry blossoms, fresh produce and crisp lakeside wines—here’s why a spring trip to Osoyoos is a must
Spring in Osoyoos is a stunning time of year. Warm-weather wildlife returns to the desert valley, and the first buds of the season are starting to bloom. From March to June, Osoyoos becomes a serene, yet exciting destination for visitors to experience the “firsts” of spring in this southeastern region of B.C.
There are so many reasons to book a springtime getaway to Osoyoos, so here are the top five.
The southern Okanagan is known for its fresh fruits. While many seasonal fruit harvests peak in summer, spring offers the rare opportunity to enjoy the first of Osoyoos’ specialties. Savour fresh strawberries starting in late spring and sneak in a sample of some early-season apricots or cherries in mid-June. Follow the Osoyoos-Oliver fruit stand trail to try the region’s produce and specialty products at market stand locations, and visit the Osoyoos Farmers’ Market returning May 2.
Osoyoos’ desert climate means spring comes early, with fruit trees blooming as early as late March. Catch the soft pink petals of cherry blossom trees in late March to mid-April, along with the pink blossom of peach trees and white blooms of pear trees in late April and early May. Visit one of the area’s many beaches and parks on a sunny day to view the spring nature, like the shady trees of Gyro Beach (walking distance from Main Street) and the colourful flower gardens of Cottonwood Park.
April is designated as B.C. Wine Month, and there’s no better time to visit local wineries and sample some of the province’s best in the South Okanagan and Similkameen. Book a wine tour, or unwind outside in the early days of patio season with the season’s first locally-sourced farm-to-table bites under the blue Osoyoos sky.
Osoyoos Lake is the warmest freshwater lake in Canada, making it the ideal choice for the first outdoor swim of 2026. And with warmer temperatures come more pleasant outdoor activities, like witnessing the return migration at the Osoyoos Bird Trail Outpost or hiking one of the many trails with desert and rolling vineyard views. While you’re here, sneak in the first putts of the season at renowned greens like Osoyoos Golf Club or Sonora Dunes.
Immerse yourself in the region’s culture and history this spring. Visit the indoor and outdoor interactive exhibits at the Nk’Mip Desert Cultural Centre to learn about the Indigenous Okanagan people, or the Osoyoos Desert Centre to learn about habitat restoration, conservation and the ecology of Canada’s semi-arid shrub-steppe desert. Then, head into town to feel inspired by the latest works from local artists on display at the Okanagan Art Gallery and the Art Gallery Osoyoos.
No matter the reason, you’re sure to feel refreshed on a springtime getaway to Osoyoos. For more information and to plan your trip, visit Destination Osoyoos.
