Vintage-inspired details give this rustic-modern space a serious shot of Parisian glamour.
The design of this Parisian apartment meets inner-city Calgary home has its roots in practical decisions. “The homeowner loved the traditional look, but it also worked for us,” explains Vancouver designer Stephanie Brown. “We chose rustic textures and materials that would be durable around three young children.” To achieve the look, Brown had the dramatic reclaimed floor laid out in a chevron pattern to accentuate the long hallway, which leads from the foyer to a casual eating area. Though the space is informal—the table is distressed wood, paired with an aged iron base—a dramatic chandelier elevates the design. And those gorgeous French doors are designed for the Calgary climate: while they look iron, they’re actually solid wood painted a dark charcoal to mimic the look of metal without subjecting the owners to its frosty, chill-conducting properties.
