Mountain Equipment Co-op opened its brand new corporate headquarters up to the media for a sneak peek of the LEED Platinum building in Vancouver’s False Creek Flats neighbourhood. Designed by Proscenium Architecture and Interiors, the building is built to maximize sunlight—its narrow footprint means that nearly all office spaces access natural light—and to encourage employees to be active, including multipurpose spaces designed to host spin classes, CrossFit and yoga, along with desks designed to be either standing or sitting. Rainwater is stored for reuse and in the gardens on site, and geo-thermal wells heat the building; sensors monitor sunlight to automatically lower and raise blinds, and switch lights on and off. And for those looking to blow off a little steam between meetings, there’s a bouldering cave on the main floor.
