Amanda Hamilton brings Moroccan culture to Alberta.
With Dinner by Design Calgary right around the corner, there’s only so many days left to decide which table to sit at. So we’re catching up with some of the event’s top designers to get a sneak peek into what to expect this year.Inspiration can come from many places, but for designer Amanda Hamilton (named One to Watch in our 2013 Designers of the Year competition), her installation idea was sparked by the traditional souks and medina of Morocco. “We want to create a space that invited exploration and discovery through a built environment,” says Hamilton. Calgary retailers such as Plant Terrariums, Silk Road Spices, and Our Daily Brett that will be working with Hamilton to showcase a modern interpretation of old world style.Hamilton promises an “impromptu and spontaneous” experience, including surprises and elevated elements that people might not expect. Though specifically what remains a secret, we know for sure we’ll be seeing is a colourful display with intriguing patterns and rich textures that will surely encapsulate Moroccan culture.
