Light up the night on November 3 at LAMP's 4th annual lighting design competition.
Black Hole Lamp by Dario Narvaez and Anthony Baxter.LAMP—the Lighting Architecture Movement Project—was established by Annika Hagen and Nicole Fox as way to illuminate the world of lighting design and its influence on our daily life. With the aim of introducing a broader audience to the beauty of lighting design and opening up the market to emerging talent, Hagen and Fox launched an international design competition as part of the project. Now in it’s fourth year, the competition has earned quite a draw, receiving entries from 80 cities and 27 countries across the globe. Of the 132 designs submitted this year, selections have been whittled down to 10 finalists per category—student, emerging and established—judged on aesthetics, marketability, innovation, and each designer’s unique interpretation of 2016s “Cosmic” theme. Orion by Aaron Colfer. The competition will be judged by a panel of some of the world’s industry design leaders, including Niels Bendtsen of Bensen, Jakub Zak of Patricia Urquiola Studio, architectural lighting designer Ellie Niakan and Allison Mills, owner of Seattle’s Inform Interiors. We have our eyes on the stone and copper “Orion” lamp from UK designer Aaron Colfer, and the delicate LED star map on BC designer Matthew Kennedy’s “Diaphanous” creation. Join the movement and see the winners announced live at LAMPs opening reception on November 3rd at Jan Kath Studio. The exhibit will also be open to the public by donation from November 3 to 6. Diaphonous by Matthew Kennedy.
