We'll take this Bowen Island cabin over any cottage.
Ontario, you can keep Muskoka. we're happy with our own take on cottage country: the heaven-on-earth that is a West Coast cabin. This wood-on-wood-on-wood Bowen Island retreat (featured in our July/August 1973 issue) by Vancouver firm Henriquez and Todd (see Design Is in Our DNA, #19) is an early example of an obsession for laid-back, rustic-modern cool, but as we've been celebrating this quintessential sort of space decade after decade in the magazine, It's clear that one thing never changes: It's not summer till we've made the trek to a little cabin in the woods.
Even the writing in this 73 story conjures up the summer vibes: From the front, the cabin is a delight, almost all sundeck, slung like a hammock between tall cedars.
The editorial team at Western Living loves nothing more than a perfectly designed space, place or thing: and we’re here to tell you about it. Email us your pitches at [email protected].
