The Tonight for Tomorrow fundraising event returns to Vancouver and Calgary Wednesday, May 9.
Tuc, Belgard Kitchen, The Mackenzie Room, Anju, Calcutta Cricket Club, Proof—all of these Vancouver and Calgary restaurants have one thing in common. If you’ve been dining at any of them (plus countless other restaurants in each city), you may have noticed certain menu items marked with a fork-and-plate logo. You may also have learned that every time someone orders those particular dishes, the restaurants will donate $1 to Mealshare, a non-profit organization that provides meals to youth living in poverty.
Sounds like a pretty nice way to give back, right? Well, on Wednesday, May 9, a few restaurants (34, to be exact), are raising the bar and donating every dollar spent on all menu items. “This is the easiest and most delicious fundraiser you’ll ever participate in,” says Derek Juno, the business development VP of Mealshare. All you have to do is go out for dinner. The fundraising event, called Tonight for Tomorrow, will take place across Canada (Vancouver, Calgary and Ottawa), but the money raised in each city stays there and feeds the youth in that community. Mealshare partners with local charities in each of the participating cities to spread the love (and donations). In the case of Vancouver, the partners are Kidsafe Project, Boys and Girls Club and Breakfast Club of Canada; in Calary, they’ve teamed up with Calgary Drop-In Centre and Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids.
So why not finally check out Brix and Mortar in Vancouver’s Yaletown hood for sorghum glazed duck breast, or Ricardo’s Hideaway in Calgary for Maui ribs and jerk chicken? You’ll feel warm and fuzzy knowing your meal is feeding a kid in need. You could even go one step further and have a progressive dinner—that’s when you have your appetizer, entrée and dessert at different places. It is for charity after all…just saying.
