You won’t find a speck of drywall in this 2,400-square-foot, off-the-grid home on B.C.’s North Thormanby Island. Instead, walls and ceilings are clad in nickel-gap whitewashed cedar—a neutral that’s warm and welcoming (and hardwearing, to boot).

The great room is the star of the show: an open-concept space designed to encourage family togetherness and slow, thoughtful living. Triple-paned glass windows showcase the beautiful waterfront view, creating a serene backdrop as the homeowners and their little ones read by the concrete fireplace, gather around the dinner table or cozy up for a little storm-watching.
