Move over, straight lines! Curved furniture is having a moment. In a recent conversation with HAVAN, Editor-in-Chief Anicka Quin shared that “we’re seeing a lot more curves in furniture design—so, sofas that are a little curvier, a little cushier, a little kind of all-embracing.”

From the arched colonnade and rippled pendant light to the circular area rug and curvy velvet sofa, every detail in this chic space evokes the inviting charm of a Parisian salon. Sarah Ward took inspiration from Emily in Paris when transforming a former warehouse into a multifunctional studio for Lis Simon bridal. Learn more about this award-winning design.
Sunken rooms are a rarity these days, and that’s exactly why homeowner and interior designer Suffron Keay decided to go for it. “That sunken living room was the first thing that I designed, because in Southlands you don’t have basements,” she says. “There are not many homes where you can do that.”
The sofa, custom-built by Vancouver’s WD Western Designers in a delicious shade of hunter green, is the standout feature. A trio of round coffee tables completes the look. Check out the rest of this modern country residence.
While the family room in this 10,000-square-foot Victoria home has been designed with kids in mind—peep the durable jute rug and sofas upholstered in wipeable fabrics—the formal living room is meant for gathering and connecting.
“[The owners] wanted to have an area that wasn’t about children, something sophisticated,” explains Andrea Rodman. “Curve shapes just feel more relevant to nature. It brings a softness, even if everything else is square and masculine and cold.” Explore the rest of this light and textural dream home.
Okay, okay… this particular example is more of a bench than a sofa. But it’s no less gorgeous! The seat’s organic shape and bouclé material lend a touch of softness that contrasts nicely with the room’s more angular details (read: the vaulted ceiling and geometric marble floor). Find out why this bathroom won Amanda Hamilton a WL Design 25 award.
Sculptural, serene, stunning—if we had to describe this space in only three words, those are the ones we’d choose. Designers Ben Leavitt and Maria Espinosa weren’t afraid to play with shapes here, bringing in an oversized custom sectional that hugs the panoramic window, a round hearth and an organically shaped rug. Peek inside this North Vancouver living room.
