Spring has officially sprung in Vancouver! Our Easter weekend was capped off with a 20-degree day—and while we couldn’t be more grateful, it’s only made us crave even more sunshine. Perhaps that’s why we dug into the WL archives this morning looking for homes that seem just as ready as we are to embrace the season.

Fresh Take

Nothing beats the feeling of opening up your windows for the first time in months and letting the fresh spring air fill the house—and Herschel co-founder Lyndon Cormack seems to agree. Like many other rooms in his North Vancouver home (including the kitchen and primary suite), this space features a folding glass wall that seamlessly connects the indoors to the outdoor gardens. Explore this playful, art-filled abode designed by Omer Arbel.

Spring Fling

Despite having decent details like moulding, baseboards and hardwood flooring, this home felt uninspired. “It suffered from builder beige,” says designer Paul Lavoie, who was brought in to liven up the space. He opted for a palette of greens, blues, magentas and oranges, and now it’s as vivid as a bouquet. Peek inside this boldly coloured Calgary house.

Flower Power

Speaking of bouquets! Interior designer Jeff Liu’s living room appears to be in full bloom thanks to the addition of a floral-patterned Jan Kath rug. Linen drapery brings even more warmth and softness to the space, which opens up to a 500-square foot patio that looks ideal for springtime hangs. “It’s nice to come home to an oasis,” says Liu. Arch Madness

We can’t decide what gives off the strongest spring vibes in this Louis Duncan-He-designed space. Is it the colour-blocked drapery or the arch-shaped murals? Perhaps it’s the combination of these elements, which both appear elsewhere in the home as well. “I knew that I wanted some sort of graphic device to connect the dining room and the living room,” says Duncan-He. Light Touch

Designer Annaliesse Kelly’s Squamish duplex may have a darker palette than some of the other homes we’ve showcased here—but that doesn’t make it any less spring-y. The high-contrast monochrome base (crisp white walls, black cabinetry) is accented by colourful pops, including the mustard yellow and ruby-red Benen armchairs in the living room. Plus, those west-facing loft windows flood the space in evening sunlight. See the before and after renovation photos.
