Though this Calgary powder room looks like the pinnacle of adult sophistication—moody, glamorous, aglow with layered pendant lighting—designer Lori Sellmer quietly infused the jewel-box half-bath with a family-friendly practicality. Designed for a young family of four, it features efficient details and surfaces (installed by contractors Foxpoint Developments) that were carefully selected for durability: the tough Dekton travertine countertop withstands daily use while still bringing the beauty; a custom vanity seated on a fluted wood base offers ample functionality in a compact footprint. Importantly, the faucet was cleverly placed within easy reach of little hands, allowing the children to use it without a stool. Function and form, all grown up.
