Wash away your Monday blues with this bathroom design inspo.
There are two types of people in the world: bath people and shower people. If you’re one of the latter, this is for you! We rounded up some of the most beautiful walk-in showers from the WL archives to inspire your next bathroom makeover.
The form of this Kitsilano house may be classical, but the style is not. Denise Ashmore, principal of Project 22 Design, says that the owners “definitely love an international flair”. Hence why the shower in the primary ensuite features a geometric Mutina tile and a metalwork frame. See the before and after renovation photos.
Emerald green is just one of the natural, earthy hues that can be found in this bathroom. “It’s meant to feel warm and cozy with that handmade Moroccan feel,” says designer Andrea Ewanchyna. Not only that, but the steam shower has been strategically positioned to capture expansive views through the bay windows. “We made it as large as we could and we angled the glass.” Get more design tips from this spa-like retreat.
This shower is truly one of a kind. Jenalee Tsimara, design lead of Schédio, created her own mosaic using lilac marble. Larger slabs were cut into smaller pieces to create a subtle checkered-meets-plaid pattern. “The math for this was so intense because it had to be framed out exactly” she recalls. Designer David Nicolay calls the exterior of this Vancouver house “introverted”—but we think that’s an apt description for the interior as well. The team at Evoke International Design kept the palette simple, sticking almost exclusively to three materials: basalt for the floors, Douglas fir for the walls and ceiling, and a luxe Italian marble for the bathroom tiles. Tour this waterfront property owned by NHL star Trevor Linden.
Water is said to have a calming effect, so anyone who steps into this Amanda Hamilton-designed shower must feel super relaxed. The swirling wall tile was chosen because it mimics the movement of water; brass fixtures add a warm counterpoint to the cool blues and greys of the stone. Step inside this dramatic primary bathroom.
Imagine the shower thoughts you could have here! Decked out in blacks and charcoals, this bathroom in architect Rafael Santa Ana’s home has a “Darth Vader chamber” effect. “It’s the coziest place,” he says. “It deprives you of light but awakens your senses.” Explore the rest of this stunning North Vancouver residence.
You’ve heard of feature walls… but what about feature showers? Designer Suzanne Tetrault of Studio Felix made this one distinct by finishing it with maroon and peach tiles. “We thought, ‘Let’s just bring in a crazy pop of colour in the shower,’” she says. From the Ann Sacks Savoy tiles and the marble bench to the greenery, this bathroom is filled with beautiful details—much like the rest of the Oak Bay residence. “[The owners] chose materials that were timeless, simple and understated,” says designer Andrea Rodman.
