This Bathroom Uses Colour in All the Right Ways

A little colour can make everything else pop.

Everything in this ensuite started with that gorgeous grey-and-white herringbone marble floor tile. And this space really is all about pattern: striking black mullion windows that practically reach from ceiling to floor, walnut wood grain on the Eames chair and in the millwork in the adjoining room, and those lovely patterned drapes that make the space feel as much like a garden conservatory as a bathing retreat. The drapes, pooled on the floor, are a little longer than might be traditional, but add to the sense of being just a little unexpected in this space€”in a great way. €œIt's kind of a twiggy floral, those drapes,€ says designer Nyla Free, whose team at Nyla Free Designs worked with DeJong Design Associates on the home in Central Alberta. €œthere'san indoor-outdoor, organic feel with this unexpected colour, and it felt like a neutral would downplay the other materials we had. They really make the space come alive.€
