Now-national event has its inaugural Calgary party June 11 to 12, 2015.
The Calgary design scene packed the room at the Alberta College of Art and Design on Thursday night for the city’s first Monogram Dinner by Design, created by Vancouver’s The Social Concierge. The event, which sees seven Calgary designers—including Western Living favourites Amanda Hamilton, Nyla Free, Connie Young, Corea Sotropa and Alykhan Velji—create 12-by-12, elaborate stand-alone dining rooms, continues again Friday night for a gala dinner, with proceeds going to both ACAD and Contemporary Calgary.I can’t recommend Friday’s party enough—the work these designers have produced is truly breathtaking, from Amanda Hamilton’s Steampunk Study (with fuchsia-dipped cutlery, stacks of vintage books and cut-crystal glassware) to Alykhan Velji’s gorgeous outdoor terrarium, featuring a one-of-a-kind, stunning new concrete table from Sumer Singh of Mtharu (the latter took no less than five people to install in place).Check out Monogram Dinner by Design on Friday, June 12 at ACAD in Calgary. Public viewing, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., $20; Gala dinner tickets, $300; digestif tickets, $50, dinnerxdesign.com.
