We want to snuggle up in every single one of these spaces.
So far, we’ve had a pretty mild fall in Vancouver… until last week, that is. The wet and windy weather finally hit and it immediately made us want to hunker down inside. So, we’ve rounded up seven cozy rooms from the WL archives. With warm colours, layered textures and lived-in charm, they seem to be made for fall days. Keep on scrolling to see what we mean.
See this couch? This is the type of couch that you can sink into for hours. Reading a thrilling murder mystery? Streaming Gilmore Girls for the hundredth time? Watching the leaves fall outside your window? We can imagine doing all our favourite autumn activities from this Saba Italia sofa, which is upholstered in a perfectly slouchy linen. Explore this moody Edmonton home designed by Brianna Hughes.
Mixed textures, earthy tones, wood and leather accents—this bedroom screams fall. And the rest of the home is finished in much the same way. Katie Rioux of DWK Interiors combined Japanese minimalism with Scandinavian natural materials to create a calm Japandi aesthetic. Step inside this Calgary residence.
The owners of this Calgary home have a very busy lifestyle and asked Alykhan Velji to design a soothing space where they could relax. Mission accomplished! Take the library, for example. It features an organic mural-like wallpaper that “envelopes the room and makes it feel cozy and rich.” See the before and after renovation photos.
There’s something about this Bidgood + Co.-designed space that makes us think of Nora Ephron movies. With floating shelves, hanging pots and pans, colourful artwork, stacks of books and a cushy sofa, it has a lived-in look that’s as charming as her films’ protagonists. Deep, earthy reds have been trending for awhile now and if you haven’t already embraced it in your home, this is the season to do it in. Need a little inspo? Take a cue from this living room designed by Brianna Hughes—she doubled down with a rust-coloured corduroy sofa and a coat of Benjamin Moore’s Espresso to create a cuddly hang-out spot for a family of five. Check out the rest of this ’70s-inspired renovation.
The living room in this Calgary residence is made for entertaining—it features a handsome, reed-fronted bar and an impressive collection of spirits. But we’d be taking our drinks into this walnut-clad den instead. Part of the original design, it honours the heritage of the home and invites people to sit back, sip and stay awhile. When it comes to designing a warm and inviting space, textures are essential. In this bedroom, Gillian Segal layered it on with an oversized rattan light fixture, grasscloth wallpaper and super-soft linens. “I wanted this room to be a moody, cozy escape,” she says.” Plus, it features a mix of browns—another of the season’s trending colours.
