Livingspace has acquired Brougham Outdoor and Kerrisdale Lumber Home’s outdoor kitchen business to open Livingspace Outdoor
If you’ve spent any time in the Armoury District—Vancouver’s design district, bounded on one side by the Seaforth Armoury and the other by Granville Island—you’ll have no doubt wandered through the three-floor ode to modern furniture and design that is Livingspace. The building’s epic staircase—an architectural marvel that’s on the exterior of the building—was designed by Omer Arbel of Bocci and a stunner on a sunny day, wandering through its angled twists and turns (and, spoiler alert: the site of our photo shoot for sister brand BCBusiness’s upcoming issue, highlighting the winners of their annual 30 Under 30 Awards).
Now the design icon is opening a second location, Livingspace Outdoor, just a few blocks away in Olympic Village. The new store, which will feature brands like Wolf, Gloster and Tucci, came together from an amicable acquisition of two other iconic local stores: Brougham Outdoor and Kerrisdale Lumber’s outdoor kitchens line.
Livingspace been a part of the Vancouver design scene for nearly 37 years. Just around the corner, also in the Armoury District, Brougham Interiors was also a huge presence in the local design community for over 40 years. And while it’s not in the same neighbourhood, the beloved Kerrisdale Lumber is now in fourth-generation hands—it’s been a part of Vancouver for over 100 years.
The new Livingspace Outdoor came together after Mark Panther, who ran Brougham Interiors with his brother Rex for over 40 years, was ready to retire and approached Livingspace owner Ross Bonetti about acquiring Brougham’s outdoor business. At the same time, Kerrisdale Lumber is closing its retail location, focusing back on its original lumber business, as they noted in their press release: “This transition marks an exciting new chapter for Kerrisdale Lumber as we return to our roots, focusing on our core business of premium building supplies and driving growth in this area.”
Livingspace Outdoor will feature outdoor kitchens and appliances from Wolf, Kalamazoo, Hestan, Danver and Urban Bonfire, outdoor furniture from Gloster, Dedon, and Tuuci, as well as heating solutions from Bromic. “The opportunity was there for us to have a dedicated outdoor store that has outdoor furniture, but also outdoor kitchens, barbecues, fire pits, heating systems,” says Bonetti, “everything to do with creating a full outdoor oasis that can be used all year long.”
Bonetti has also hired the staff from Brougham and Kerrisdale Lumber Home. “We brought on the teams from both stores for a smooth transition,” he says. “They’re a knowledgeable staff on both fronts—they have a deep knowledge of the brands, and they share the same dedication to quality and community that Livingspace has. I’m confident Brougham’s and Kerrisdale Lumber’s legacy is in the best hands moving forward.”
