We got the scoop on Jennifer Cockrall-King's new book and where to eat in the Okanagan.
The Okanagan has always been celebrated for the bountiful wines and fruits that it is known to produce, but if you live there, you know that it is also one of the best places to get fresh farm-to-table food. People regularly gather there for the lakes, vineyards and mountains, but foodies flock there for the farms, bakeries, breweries, butcher shops, chocolatiers and more. In her new book Food Artisans of the Okanagan, long time Western Living contributor Jennifer Cockrall-King explores and celebrates the various, and plentiful, food artisans who are dedicated to bringing you their finest, freshest Okanagan fares.
To be blunt, whether it’s in my kitchen, in a restaurant, at a roadside fruit stand, or at any one of the region’s crazy-good farmers’ markets, there’s nowhere else I’d rather be.
Being a food writer by profession, Jennifer knows what she’s talking about when she says she knows good food. So, if she is “always so happy to return home to the Okanagan Valley” after travelling to the world’s culinary hot spots, there must be something fantastic going on there. Thankfully, she has shared her secret with us, and on April 5th to all of you as well, about where to get the best of everything when it comes to food and drink in the Okanagan.
Conveniently organized by the four regions of the Okanagan (North, Central, South and the Similkameen), it is the perfect guide to carry with you as you traverse through the 20,000-square-kilometre region. Make your way from Hedley to Penticton to Kelowna to Sicamous with this in your bag and know that you’re always close to an excellent meal.
