In these uncertain times, we at least can count on one thing: that Pantone will tell us what colour to care about in any given year.
TodayPantone Colour of the Year Announcement Daythe prestigious Color Institute did not let us down, declaring 2020 the year of Classic Blue and inspiring a flurry of emails that swept through the design industry.
The official statement for this momentous decision: “Instilling calm, confidence, and connection, this enduring blue hue highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.”
The Pantone website goes on to call Classic Blue “reflective” and claims it brings “a sense of peace and tranquility” as well as “laser-like clarity.” Only time will tell if this soothing hue actually improves our mental health, but we can tell you right now: we’re all for an excuse for a home makeover… and we’ve already scoured our favourite shops for pieces to bring this colour home.
