This Holiday Popup Offers Another Way to Support Local Makers This Year

Once a Tree Furniture opens its showroom to local artists and makers for the holiday season.

There’s never been a better time to support local – as we all know, it’s been a year. And local Vancouver furniture and decor store Once A Tree Furniture is taking it one step further: the small business is supporting other small businesses by hosting a series of popup shops this month.

The long-time fixture of the local design community is hosting their inaugural  At Home for the Holidays: Pop-up Series. The Marine Drive showroom will feature the work of several local artists, creators and shakers (with COVID protocols in place, of course).

As part of the series, some of the featured artists will be stopping by throughout December to meet shoppers and share more about themselves and their collections. This Saturday, photographer and now-homeware designer Tracey Ayton (whose gorgeous interiors photography is often featured over here at WL) will be popping in to share more about her handmade home goods, designed fittingly for seaside living. Her collection of small-batch items, from wooden cutting boards to pinstripe aprons to woven bike baskets, will be featured at the popup all month long.

Other highlights include New Zealand-born, Vancouver-based artist Gabryel Harrison‘s botanical-inspired work, along with artists Lisa Ochowycz and Krista Johnson, and arrangements and holiday designs from West Coast Gardens. Steelwood Design‘s father-daughter duo will be there featuring their reclaimed and repurposed wood charcuterie boards and kitchen utensils. Artist Kirn Gill‘s oil-on-canvas landscapes and Miriam Aroeste‘s vibrant artwork will also be displayed. (And Aroeste will be at the popup on December 12).

Once A Tree will also be donating 20 percent of all popup sales in December to charities of the artists€™ choice.

It looks like everyone on our lists is getting something artisanal and local this year. (And maybe we’ll be doing a little shopping for ourselves while we’re at it.)
