Lucien Marie Design crafts a warm, textural living space perfect for après-ski relaxation
A cozy and relaxing après is often just as important as the day spent on the mountain, and Michelle Poitras of Lucien Marie Design has captured that sense of relaxation with the open-concept living room of a mountainside ski home in Vernon, B.C. Designed with gathering and unwinding in mind, the neutral, contemporary space feels at once bright and cozy thanks to layers of texture upon texture. From painted vertical wall panelling to warm (and stain resistant) wool rugs to solid wood furnishings, the space feels almost beachy with its airy brightness and natural finishes. But, the centrepiece of the room—a raised hearth with a limestone surround and a wood-burning fireplace, log nooks flanking either side—plants us decidedly mountainside. Who says winter has to be grey and dreary?
