From craft beer to brunch, here are 7 fun ways to spend time with Pop this Father's Day.
We know planning an amazing day for your favourite person can be a little high-pressure, so here are a few events and activities across the West that Dad’s sure to love:
This three-hour tour is the perfect excuse to visit Vancouver’s coolest breweries. Not only do you get to try flights of new beers, you get a behind-the-scenes peek at craft brew magic—often from the owners and/or brewmasters themselves—learning all about the carefully picked and often local ingredients that go into the beer making process along the way.
When: Sunday, June 19 (1 p.m. to 4 p.m.)Where: Brassneck Brewery, Powell Street Craft Brewery, and Deep Cove Brewers, VancouverTickets: $75; book a tour here.
The Seymour Salmonid Society, in partnership with Metro Vancouver, will be hosting the annual Family Fishing Day event at Rice Lake in the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve. Free to attend (and no fishing license required), the event coincides with Father’s Day and features prizes, draws, barbecues, and all the fishing advice you want.
When: Sunday, June 19 (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.)Where: Rice Lake, North VancouverTickets: No cost
Fernwood Square’s most delicious event is back for the seventh year in a row (and conveniently enough it falls on Father’s Day!). Fernwood Bites brings together Victoria’s best food and drinks establishments—including hand-crafted beer, B.C. wines, and Saanich cider. We can’t think of a better way to spoil Dad.
When: Sunday, June 19 (5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.)Where: Fernwood Square, Gladstone Avenue at Fernwood Road, VictoriaTickets: $65; buy your tickets here.
The epitome of a chill time, we can’t think of many other ways your dad would rather spend a couple days. Good music, camping, beers (naturally), and some truly beautiful, very B.C. sights.
When: Father’s Day weekend (Friday, June 17 to Sunday, June 19)Where: Sooke River Campground, Sooke, B.C.Tickets: $50; buy your tickets here.
Blue cheese cheesecake and Okanagan Shakshuka (baked eggs in tomato sauce) with Upper Bench gold cheese, chorizo sausage and roasted red pepper on baguette are just a few items on the menu you get to enjoy on the winery’s sunny patio. Remember, dads like brunch too!
When: Sunday, June 19 (10 a.m. and 12 p.m. seatings)Where: Upper Bench Winery and Creamery, 170 Upper Bench Rd. South, Penticton, B.C.Tickets: $30; reservations are recommended.
For something more relaxing (which, incidentally, happens to feature more craft beer), take your dad to see a show at Jazz in the Woods. You’ll also be supporting NWC Jazz, a non-profit dedicated to great jazz and showcasing some of Calgary’s finest musicians. This series is the company’s inaugural presentation (so let us know what you think!).
When: Sunday, June 19 (7 p.m. to 9 p.m.)Where: Triwood Community Association, 2244 Chicoutimi Dr. NW, CalgaryTickets: $15; buy your tickets here.
Of course we’re going to mention golf on Father’s Day. Not only do you get a great brunch, but since you’re there, you might as well take Dad out on these gorgeous greens for a round of his favourite activity.
When: Sunday, June 19Where: Highlands Golf Club, 6603 Ada Blvd., EdmontonTickets: Reservations are recommended.
