One of the best mixologists in Calgary teams up with a local chef to bring a new dining concept to life.
Calgarians love their cocktails, and Christina Mah is one of the best mixologists in the city. Having honed her craft at CharCut, Notable and most recently, Raw Bar in the Hotel Arts, Mah and her partner, Chef James Waters are now bringing their own dining concept to life.Together they revamped the Home Tasting Room on historic Stephen Avenue, transforming it into Klein/Harris, a space designed by Kasey Sterling from Korr Design as half dining room, half sleek lounge, with an open kitchen and floor-to-ceiling display of spirits, featuring local concoctions like gin and vodka from Eau Claire Distillery in Turner Valley.Mah’s libation program is distinct yet creative, catering to the cocktail-loving crowd with ingredients you might normally think are reserved for the kitchen. Her creations at the bar reflect the restaurant’s “true north” theme, with a menu driven by ingredients sourced from growers and producers from coast to coast. Their lunch and dinner menus are divided into Roots/Stalks (think toast three ways with brown butter mushrooms, smoked onion jam and canola poached tomatoes), Tides/Currents and Wild/Farm—all inspired by the stories of passionate Canadian producers who provide the means for us to gather and connect around the table—even if it’s a coffee table flanked by chic velvet couches.KLEIN/HARRIS, Main floor, 110 – 8 Ave. SW, 403-262-8100, kleinharris.com
