It’s a dog’s house and we’re just living in it.
Calling all dog lovers! We’ve once again scoured through the WL archives to bring you photos of pups living in gorgeous homes (see here and here for past editions). So, what are you waiting for? Keep on scrolling for a whole lot of cuteness and design inspo.
Designer Annaliesse Kelly turned this 2,728-square-foot home into a serene retreat that can handle the hustle and bustle of a family of four (and one very active dog!). Take the area rug, for example—it’s as hardy as it is comfortable for this adorable duck tolling retriever. Find out why else this space won a WL Design 25 Award.
When we think of excellently designed mudrooms, this one by the team at Falken Reynolds often pops into mind. It has space for all sorts of equipment (from lacrosse sticks to basketballs) as well as built-in dog bowls. Complete with a faucet and overflow drain, it allows the homeowners’ lab to easily hydrate after a walk. Check out the rest of this minimalist, oceanfront home.
This golden retriever has got it good! At this property (owned by former NHL player Dan Hamhuis), it has a ton of space to roam, romp and roll, including a grassy front yard and a private beach.
“To make the house feel welcoming, the outdoor living spaces—dining, firepit, tennis court and dock—all face the front yard.” explains Chad Falkenberg of Falken Reynolds. Tour this Northern B.C. home.
This living area is filled with colourful, eye-catching furniture—including a chartreuse Togo sofa from Ligne Roset, a blue Womb chair from Knoll and a pair of pink Arper Saari bench seats from Livingspace. But it’s the family dog, Lily, that’s capturing our attention. Her grey, tan and white coat is the perfect counterpoint. Explore this West Coast modern home designed by Burgers Architecture.
Lou is so much more than a beloved family pet—he’s also an aspiring interior designer. The antlers placed on the dining table are extra rugged thanks to this canine’s… well, canines. “I had it on the floor getting ready to style it and the dog chewed it,” says designer Ami McKay with a laugh. Do you know where the term “the dog days of summer” comes from? It has something to do with the star Sirius, but if we didn’t know any better we’d think it was because of this McLeod Bovell-designed space. It looks as if it were created specifically for these pups to bask in the sun. Step inside this dramatic West Vancouver home.
This Fido-friendly feature wasn’t part of Alanna Dunn and Reena Sotropa’s original plans. But since their redesign included extending the length of the island, the pair couldn’t resist adding a hideaway spot for the dog’s dinner. “That was the previous location of the dog food bowls,” says Dunn. “So it was a no-brainer to just build them into the cabinet.” Get more kitchen design tips.
