The 'Bridesmaids' star just purchased a Case Study masterpiece in Pasadena.
If you needed another reason to love Kristen Wiig, we have it: turns out she’s a nut for mid-century design. Variety reports that even though she already owns swanky mid-century house in L.A.’s trendy Silver Lake neighbourhood, she just went ahead and bought one of the famed Case Study houses in Pasadena. For a quick shot of architectural history, the Case Study houses were experimental designs sponsored by Arts and Architecture magazine starting in 1945. Some of the biggest names in architecture took part: Richard Neutra did a few (#6, #13, #20A, #21A) Charles and Ray Eames did #8 and Charles Eames teamed up with Eero Saarinen to do #9. The house Ms. Wiig just bought was #10 and it was designed by father-son duo Kemper Nomland Sr. and Jr.And it’s pretty amazing. For starters, at 3,425-square-feet it’s big by Case Study standards. And it has some lovely period details: classic open corner fireplace, walls of glass long before it was de riguer and a fantastically oddball roofline that seems perfect for the person who gave us Sue, the lady who loves surprises. We’re so frickin’ excited.
