Rustic Modern, Industrial Chic, Scandinavian and Boho-style home accessories are the heavy favourites this upcoming season.
Looking to get the jump on summer’s must-haves?For the first time in Canada, Etsy held a special event in Vancouver Wednesday to release its list of big summer trends in home décor and accessories, as well as its top pieces from local makers.According to Jennifer Knox of Etsy Canada, shoppers can’t get enough of Rustic Modern, Industrial Chic, Scandinavian and Bohemian home accessories — here are Etsy’s Canadian picks:
According to research from Etsy Canada’s ace team of data crunchers, Knox says Rustic Modern will be one of this summer’s top trends.“I think it’s where shabby-chic has grown up to,” she says. “It’s a lot softer and a little cleaner.”Instead of flea market finds, Knox says the style is a more sophisticated lineup featuring reclaimed woods, preserved and exposed architectural elements, as well as steel beams.Look for:
A look that persists into 2015 for summer is undoubtedly industrial chic, and according to Etsy the recipe is simply a mix of hard and soft, old and new, and simple art prints in addition to telltale reclaimed metal pieces and steel on glass.Look for:
A popular import, Scandinavian is another top trend for the home this summer says Etsy.According to Knox this look is minimalist and modern, yet functional, with clean lines and ample use of white and woods. Another big theme within this trend is the art-clustered gallery wall.“Etsy is a great resource for that because it doesn’t cost a lot of money,” says Knox. The online retailer has prints as low as $5 that shoppers can buy as PDFs and print themselves at home. Knox says these DIY prints are perfect for putting into white box frames for a beautiful high-end look.Look for:
A more free-spirited summer trend—just in time for music festival season—is whimsical, artsy, bohemian.Get ready for macramé planters, creative candles and a mixture of textures used throughout the space says Knox.“It’s magical, it’s earthy, it’s non-traditional,” says the Etsy Canada host. “But when it’s done right, it’s so beautiful.”Look for:
