Burritt Bros., Vancouver

Since its launch in 1907, Burritt Bros. Carpets and Floors has outfitted such iconic Vancouver buildings as the Orpheum Theatre and the Hotel Vancouver. Four generations later, they’ve relocated to Fraser Street—shared with sister carpet company, Colin Campbell—in a space that boasts 30-foot ceilings, tons of natural light and plenty of space to display full-sized rugs and flooring samples. Rally Co., Vancouver Island

This modern 700-square-foot gift shop is a new gem in downtown Courtenay. The store, complete with floor-to-ceiling windows and vinyl-plank flooring, carries a coveted collection of home accessories, local pottery, paper goods, body-care products and notecards. Piece on Peace, Calgary

This sustainable boutique makes custom clothing from vintage fabrics (think Chanel, Versace and Armani from the 1980s and ’90s) and features bedding, home decor and robes custom-made by local artists and artisans. “We rarely make the same piece twice,” says Barb MacKenzie, owner of the 900-square-foot space. In the past they’ve featured a local artist who paints bright water-colours on textiles and a potter who’s created custom sake sets.
